What Coaching Burghfield Bisons Under-9s Teaches You About Confidence

A big part of what we do as a business is rooted in the community. Alex has been involved for the past few years as manager of the Burghfield Bisons Under-9s, and this season, Martyn Russell has also come on board to sponsor the Under-9s age group, which includes three teams.

We play our matches over at Woodford Park in Woodley, which is a great local spot and somewhere a lot of families will already know. It’s a few hours each week, but it’s something that brings a lot of perspective.

More Than Just Football

At that age, it’s not really about tactics or results. It’s about confidence. Some of the boys start off unsure. Quiet. Not wanting the ball. Worried about making mistakes. But over time, you start to see a shift. They get more involved. They try things. They back themselves a bit more each week.

Seeing the Development First-Hand

One of the best parts of being involved is seeing that development up close. Week in, week out at Woodford Park, you see the same group of boys growing in confidence. The small wins matter. A first goal. A good pass. Even just asking for the ball. Those moments build confidence, and once that starts to grow, everything else follows. It’s also something that makes it more personal. Alex’s son is part of the team, so it’s not just about coaching, it’s about being part of that journey as a parent as well.

Why It Matters

It’s a reminder that confidence doesn’t come from getting everything right. It comes from taking that first step and sticking at it. We see something similar when people are thinking about moving. There’s often hesitation at the start. Questions. Not knowing where to begin. But once that first step is taken, things become much clearer, and you give yourself a much better chance of reaching your goal.

Proud to Be Involved

For us, it’s important that we’re not just working in the area, but actually part of it. Being involved week to week with the Burghfield Bisons, playing locally at Woodford Park, and now supporting all three Under-9s teams through sponsorship is something we’re genuinely proud of.

Final Thought

Whether it’s on the pitch or with a move, confidence builds over time. And sometimes, all it takes is getting started.

If you’ve been thinking about your next move but haven’t taken that first step yet, we’re always here for a chat.
